Doctor’s Curriculum Vitae

The ophthalmic surgeon Anastasia Tsiogka was born in Veria in 1988 and raised in Kozani. She graduated with honors (final grade: 19.6/20) from the 2nd Unified High School of Kozani in 2006, ranking first in the prefecture. She was admitted 5th to the Hellenic Military Academy of Corps Officers (Medical Department) and graduated in 2012 from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) with a grade of 7.55/10.

After graduation, she served as a physician in various military centers, including the Military Nursing Academy, and simultaneously completed with honors (grade: 8.56) her postgraduate studies in Biostatistics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

In 2019, she began her specialty training in Ophthalmology at the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, where she evaluated patients’ clinical conditions on a daily basis (including emergencies) and participated in surgical procedures such as chalazion excision, cataract surgery, intravitreal injections, and pterygium removal.

In 2021, she continued her specialty training at the Athens General Hospital “G. Gennimatas”, in the 1st University Ophthalmology Department, where she gained extensive clinical and surgical experience in managing emergencies (e.g., conjunctivitis, foreign bodies, severe trauma, burns, neurological cases, etc.), as well as in performing numerous surgical procedures (e.g., cataract extraction, corneal disease management, etc.) and intravitreal injections. She also served as chief resident in the outpatient clinics, retina department, glaucoma department, and cornea department.

In 2024, after passing the national examinations, she received the title of Specialist in Ophthalmology and, following her successful participation in the European Board of Ophthalmology Exam in Paris, she was appointed a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). Since 2024, she has been a collaborator at the Eugenidion Private Hospital and the Athens Refractive Center.

She recently completed her PhD at the Medical School of NKUA, focusing on a test she developed herself (the Tsiogka–Spaeth Grid) for visual field assessment without the use of technology. This tool is intended for people without access to advanced healthcare facilities, such as those living on remote islands, elderly patients with mobility issues, and populations in developing countries. She also coordinates an artificial intelligence research program on a new drug for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration.

From the beginning of her career, she has been highly active in research, co-authoring over 25 scientific papers published in internationally renowned journals, and regularly participating as a speaker at numerous national, European, and international conferences. She is a member of the Athens Medical Association, the Hellenic Ophthalmological Society (where she was elected to the board of the Young Greek Ophthalmologists), the Hellenic Vitreoretinal Society, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). She has received numerous awards and scholarships from 2000 to the present.

Since July 2024, she has maintained her own private ophthalmology practice in the Zografou area of Athens.
